When And Where Is The Next Nintendo Event

1. Canada, the greatest threat to world peace: all that for sands
2. On the eve of the Copenhagen Summit on climate change: lessons from Seattle in 1999 can be applied today?
3. The bomb in Pakistan: the fuse is lit for a population explosion out of control
4. The referendum on minarets in Switzerland: the Swiss Constitution is offset with respect to international law

SANDS!

Canada's image in the world is getting worse
The Canadian government's campaign against multilateralism is as wild as that conducted by the Bush administration

Unless we can stop it, the damage caused by Canada in December 2009 could lead directly to the Apocalypse climate, nothing less

In 2006 Canada announced it was abandoning its targets for reducing greenhouse gases under the Kyoto Protocol

No other country has ratified the treaty has done such a thing

Canada was supposed to cut its emissions by 6% between 1990 and 2012

Instead, they increased by 26%

is now clear that Canada will refuse to do punished for having abandoned its legal obligations

The case is that the Kyoto Protocol can only be strengthened through good faith

Countries have agreed to punitive measures in the future if they miss their targets

But Canada has not volunteered to cut more, in fact, our reduction is smaller than under any other wealthy nation

The Canadian government is currently testing the international process towards destruction and realizes that its commitments are far too easy to break

By demonstrating that the sanctions on climate not worth the paper they are written above, our country threatens to advance any treaty could be signed in Copenhagen

So scrapped after Kyoto, Canada is preparing to prevent other nations to sign an agreement later

Like I said, none of this is very recent ... at the end of 2007, Ottawa has blocked a resolution Commonwealth mandatory reduction targets for industrialized countries

After discussions on climate change in December 2008, Canada has won the fossil of the year filed by environmental groups ...

The price goes every year in this country which makes it the most to defeat the negotiations

The same month, an index measuring the efforts of the 60 richest countries to fight climate change was published ... Saudi Arabia was the 60th .... Canada is 59th

In June this year the media got their hands on the Canadian government's plans to divide the Europeans on the issue of combating climate change during

a meeting in October this year in Bangkok almost all the delegates from the developed world have emerged from the meeting room block when our delegates took the floor, totally disgusted by this attitude

Last week, the Heads of State Commonwealth have fought for hours to counter the obstructions of Canada

And in Copenhagen next week, you can be sure that our representatives will do everything to derail the negotiations

must do everything we can to prevent it .. . This means taking the streets and raise the costs to our elected officials that this policy only a minority in the west

We hear

***

Ongoing negotiations aimed at a global effort against climate change is fragile ... it takes quite a G8 country bounded to derail everything .... and that country is Canada, currently represented by our right minority government of Stephen Harper

Do not hesitate too long to understand the motivation of Ottawa is that Canada is currently develop the second largest oil reserves in the world from oil sands in Alberta

The most dirty energy than you can imagine

The oil sands extraction is done from the biggest open pit mine in the world

The size of England ... we'll dig even virgin forests and marshes

Refining the oil sands requires two to three times more energy than refining crude oil

companies that exploit the sands burn enough natural gas to heat six million The operation houses

sands is the largest industrial source of carbon in the world

In 2020, if current growth continues, it will produce as much greenhouse gas as Ireland or Denmark

Already thanks in part to oil sands, Canadians already have the per capita rate of greenhouse gas on Earth

And operating in Alberta has just begun

The largest shareholder of this madness is the sand Shell Oil ... a company that spends millions a year to convince the public that it is environmentally

So it goes without saying that the assault on Canada's international talks on climate change is motivated by the protection of this industry

The barons of the Alberta bitumen were able to take control of the country through its puppets in Ottawa

is certain that Canada is not the only obstacle to an agreement in Copenhagen .... but it is a major force ...

And if the weather derails ... you can be sure that the world will live more wars and chaos

Aors it goes without saying that the immediate threat to global efforts for sustainable peace, stability in the world do not come from Saudi Arabia, Iran's or China ...

This is Canada, it's us ... the world's future is in our hands

COPENHAGEN AND SEATTLE

preparations for the climate summit in Copenhagen on December 7 to 18 will rife

Except for a major diversion out on November 20 last year when hackers have published embarrassing emails from the research unit of the University of East Anglia

Where researchers admitted to being a numbers game to give the impression that global warming is worse than it really is

Personally, I care what a stupid small group of academics have to say about climate change ... this is after all just a drop in a sea of evidence that fall on us for too many years to be distracted by it

There is a real danger cons, again, big oil plant a doubt in our minds on the real dangers of climate change

Exactly as did the big tobacco companies decades ago about the potential lethality of their products

The oil companies, especially BP Shell, Chevron and ExxonMobil of the world, subsidize research groups that specialize in denial

Exactly as did the apostles of financial globalization during the 1990s ... and to counter this, remember to Seattle 10 years ago at the same time

When the WTO went into a fiasco November 30, 1999 when activists civil society have led protests against the spectacular opening ceremony of the WTO Summit

activists have done everything to prevent entry into the conference center, resisting a barrage of tear gas and pepper cayenne

And in the center, the negotiations have taken place late ... Heads of States and the developing world quickly realized that freer trade and movement of capital would only damage their small industrial sectors

This led to the same thing at the start of the round Doha in November 2001

Unfortunately, at the same time, the global justice movement turned to anti-imperialism in the wake of militarization after the attacks of September 11, 2001

In 2003, with a poor understanding of the WTO in Cancun on the table and 30 000 demonstrators outside, once the countries have withdrawn developments of the consensus

ruining plans for North America and Europe for the free use of the world

And so far the WTO does not always it is handed

So here are required to overcome the previous three enormous challenges that the North is facing reductions Copenhagen

GHG by at least 45% compared to 1990 levels by 2020 through a binding agreement, to undo the ridiculous carbon market and emissions trading, and the payment of a large ecological debt to victims of climate change

And as I said earlier, Canada's role, its influence on the balance of forces that dominate at this time will not declare victory on any of these three challenges

So which answer is logic? The main lesson is from Seattle by taking the streets, alongside civil society protestors

By preventing a bad deal in Copenhagen December 18

LESSONS FROM SEATTLE

I go back on the lessons of Seattle, whose protests against the WTO summit in 1999 has forever changed the world ... at least I hope

Before 1999, the steamroller of globalization crushing everything in its path, including the truth

But in Seattle, women and ordinary men showed the truth to the world through action Collective

is now generally accepted that globalization has failed in its promise to deliver three things: lift poor countries out of stagnation, poverty eradication and reduce inequalities

The deep depression of the economy right now is rooted in the fact that the economy is driven by transnational corporations and financial liberalization

All driven by the ideology of neoliberalism that has made the legitimate process

And I hope that we have seen the end of globalization

But things were very different there are over 10 years

I still remember how the speech was triumphant after the first WTO meeting in Singapore in November 1996

At Epoq, we repeated everywhere that globalization led by the transnational was inevitable, was the way forward, and it remained only to officially not the economic policy of the IMF and WB

the WTO would serve locomotive train utopia of neoliberalism leading to a fully integrated global economy

During the decade before Seattle, there were many studies, including reports of the UN, who questioned the assertion that globalization and supposedly free market policies were leading to sustainable growth and prosperity

Indeed, the data showed that these policies, where implemented, exacerbating poverty and inequality, strengthening economic stagnation, and this, especially in southern

However, these data were reduced to the status of opinions rather than solid facts

The orthodox view, repeated endlessly in the classroom, in the media, in political circles was that

critics of globalization were the modern incarnation of the Luddites, who destroyed these illuminated machines during the industrial revolution ... or as people who believe that Earth is not round
Then came Seattle
... and after those tumultuous days, the press began to talk about the dark side of globalization is just beginning to talk in the media of inequalities and poverty it generated

Withdrawal intellectual ideology that reached its high point two years ago when a report was published by smart economists neoclassical Princepton who showed the world how globalization and trade liberalization have contributed to poverty, stagnation and inequality

. .. and also how agencies like the IMF and World Bank and WTO have skewed the data across years to prove otherwise

Reversing the intellectual ideology of globalization that took place in Seattle has had very real consequences ... a lesson that we need to apply on the eve of the Copenhagen summit

The lesson is that the truth is made real and complete and ratified by the direct action and solidarity

PAKISTAN!

Come now in Pakistan, the country otherwise known as the bomb

For several reasons ... but mainly Because of its population explosion as a result of its own initiatives in recent decades

And the result will be a policy which will become the shadow of Islam

The UN has predicted last July that if trends continue, Pakistan has the 4th largest population in the world by 2050

When Pakistan was born in 1947, he was far from being the head of the largest populations of the world

20 years later, he finds himself seventh and sixth place

At the time, Pakistan was divided into two, the east became Bangladesh in

this time, the population was slightly larger than that of western Pakistan

In the decades that followed, the order was reversed

Pakistan and Bangladesh, respectively, 6th and 7th place in the order of the world population

And a study published last year by the Lancet medical journal helps explain why Bangladesh has been more successful than Pakistan to control its population growth

An innovative approach to government Dhaka has made all the difference

Shortly after winning its war of independence, Bangladesh has adopted an approach based on the community where women of each village who could read had driven in basic medicine and family planning

They were then going door to door, handing out condoms and pills

Fertility rates in Bangladesh have accordingly halved, from six children per woman to three ... a phenomenal success

In Pakistan, for cons, there was a form of contraception promotion by doctors and midwives need to pay: intrauterine methods

By 2050, therefore, the population Pakistan is expected to be 62 million higher than that of Bangladesh

expected that the population will grow by 85 million over the next 20 years

two-thirds of Pakistanis are younger than 30 years and the proportion will qu'agrandir

36 million new jobs are needed to support the population explosion ... and right now we're at a million per year

One can easily imagine the nightmare unfolding

no surprise, for example, inflation at 23% this year is seen as a bigger problem than terrorism

surveys were conducted with serious segments of the population represent the generation of less than 30 years

and only one third of respondents have confidence in democracy, and a third somewhat confident in the modes of governance

Islamic militants of the ruling party had lost confidence in the army, 60% to politicians, 10%

The lack of an alternative, sustainable models for young Pakistani, added to lack of infrastructure and economic stagnation is the perfect recipe for an explosive situation

It's not too late, by measures based on education and health, to avoid the worst ... but to see them go political and military leaders of Pakistan pushes me to the conclusion that is far from applying

REFERENDUM AND SWITZERLAND MINARETS

The Swiss have created a big surprise by voting Sunday in a majority of 57.5% per ban minarets calling the populist right, denouncing a political-religious symbol.

"The construction of minarets has been banned in Switzerland, the Swiss government announced in an official statement.

"The four existing minarets are not affected, authorities said.

the 26 cantons of the Confederation Switzerland, only four cantons rejected the proposal supported by the UDC party of the populist right and the small Christian party right UDF.

This vote will trigger a change in the Swiss constitution, whose preamble proclaims, "the name of God Almighty," the spirit "of solidarity and openness to the world of people and the cantons.

This vote demonstrates once again that Switzerland are two: one is modern and open, the other is populist and xenophobic

The result of Sunday is a hard blow to the image of multicultural country where 400,000 Muslims representing 4.3% of the population are considered moderate and relatively well integrated

Most of them are fleeing the Balkans, and only a minority practitioner

adopted constitutional change, which is blatant discrimination against a single religious group is certainly in contradiction of international law that protects minority rights

This unfortunate result now places the Swiss to their own conflict between national law and international

Eventually, this constitutional change would be impossible to establish precisely because of this contradiction

Despite the fact that referendum only touched the mosque minarets and not ... the country to 400 mosques and minarets 4 ... and the vote was not directly against Muslims or Islam

many Muslims consider this vote of the Swiss people as a direct affront to them ... I would say rightly

the image of a tolerant country, where people of different religious beliefs live together in harmony, is, well, seriously compromised

The worst part is not that far, Bosnia-Herzegovina sometimes dream of becoming the Switzerland of the Balkans

But it is rather that Switzerland must now live with the nightmare of approaching the fate of a divided country
