LOCKERBIE

supreme leader Muammar Gaddafi of Libya, which Ronald Reagan once called wild dog of the Middle East

is now celebrating its 40th year in office despite multiple attacks on his life from the countries of Western and even Arab countries

Last week there was an eruption of anger over the release of an agent Libyan Abdel Basset dying

al-Megrahi, sentenced for the destruction of a U.S. airliner over Scotland in 1988

Should highlight that hypocrisy abounds on all sides in this story

Washington and London have sharply criticized the ministers of justice Scotland and Libyan

who in turn responded that the return of al-Megrahi was not done in return for the oil cartel ...

Without wanting to justify, it is important to recall some facts

vile crime of Pan Am 103 is part of a larger story

1986: Libya has been accused of having placed a bomb in a nightclub Berlin, killing two American soldiers

a deserter from the Israeli secret service, Mossad, claimed to have planted the bomb to put the blame on Libya

Gaddafi asked Arab countries to increase oil prices

1987: the U.S. attempt to kill Gaddafi, but fails. 88 Libyan civilians die.

1988: France goes to war against Libya in secret desert of Chad is rich in minerals

The French secret services trying to turn to kill Gaddafi ... a bomb was planted on his private jet, but after the relationship between the two countries have improved sharply the bomb is removed.

1988: U.S. intervene on the side of Iraq in its eight-year war with Iran.

A battle cruiser from the U.S., the Vincennes, violate Iran's territorial waters by mistake and shot in full flight Airbus civilian, killing all 288 civilians on board

The Vice-President of the USA at the time, George Bush Sr. claims he does not apologize, no matter the facts

Captain of Vincennes for his crime is decorated with the Legion of Merit shortly after Bush became president

But during that time Washington pays $ 131.8 million to Iran for damages

Five months later, the Pan Am 103 with 270 passengers on board was destroyed by a bomb over Lockerbie in Scotland

The U.S. and the UK put a lot of pressure for convicted al-Megrahi, who has claimed since his innocence

Serious doubts were expressed about the court, claiming that the CIA had filed false evidence to blame Libya

Some experts believe that by cons the attack was revenge for the destruction of the Iranian plane, that Iran has paid contract killers to take care

While serious doubts about the guilt of al-Megrahi has been issued by the judicial authority in Scotland

And we had put the court's decision on appeal

Libyans for their part believed that al-Megrahi was a scapegoat to save Libya handed a severe boycott of its oil from U.S. and the UK

1989: UTA aircraft of France with 180 passengers explodes in Chad over the

A Congolese officer and Libya are accused

French investigators accuse the brother-Qaddafi, Abdullah Sanusi, head of the Libyan secret service

Libya accuses rather a group of Libyan agents acted independently, but pays the families of French victims $ 170 million in

So all that, one would think that al-Megrahi is inoocent and that Scotland was right to release

But Libya is totally guilty of crimes against UTA plane, probably a revenge against France for tried to kill Gaddafi

The Pan Am 103 was probably a revenge for the destruction of the Iranian plane

But it remains that in 1998 the British spy agency MI6 tried to kill Gaddafi with a car in the bomb

In the end, it will be understood, the western countries want the Libyan oil and are desperate to have it

There is, today, after Libya has paid $ 2.7 billion to regain the good graces of Western countries

The U.S., the UK, France and Italy have recently invested $ 8 billion in the oil industry in Libya

And all, Gaddafi proclaimed ally, in short, their new best friend ...

All's well that ends well ... for now

HEALTH SYSTEM

What a great entertainment to see the Americans act in perfect fools in this whole debate about their health system

It's fun also to see that progressive Democrats like Denis Kucinich and the madmen of the right to oppose reform plan of Barack Obama

course, the two do not oppose for the same reasons

From our point of view, it is clear that the only practical solution to arrange medical coverage in the U.S. would be to adopt the system of single insurer as is the case here in Canada

Whether nationally or by state ... and this is what a Democrat like Kucinich would

What profiteers and right-wing extremists would by cons is a complete privatization of the health system

But what Obama has put forward awkwardly c is a combination of the two incongruous

So the left as the right eventually oppose

For progressives and the left, cons, the battle is really for a health system open and functional

They want a system that delivered health care for all citizens regardless of income

What is sorely lacking in the U.S. with tens of millions of people who have no access

remember that most of the American system it is the most expensive in the world

It costs $ 6,000 per capita per year in the U.S.

In Canada is half that, and in Japan, Germany, Denmark is much less than that

... and coverage is universal

The mentality of any market in the U.S. made sure to take money from sick people to put it into profits for investors

But the debate, at least for the right fool, running around instead of state control, the fact that a bureaucrat could stand between them and their doctor

The people who will disrupt the information meetings on the plan of Obama in the cities are really filthy ignorant ... real pawns of insurance companies that want nothing to lose profit

easily recognized by their claims ignorance

as the idea that the Obama plan will kill their baby or grandmother

and their fear of socialism and government control, though, should remind these idiots that highways, police, firefighters, army and more are all provided by the government

can easily argue that a health system is equally important for a society that these other institutions ... and should be logically organized the same way

Should they follow their twisted logic anti-government, all public institutions should be sold to private interests

So a police firefighters, highways private ... it's really a good idea?

Why spend such a large amount of money per year in their health care, mainly for private profits feed

When a single player controlled by the public would be cheaper, more efficient and would provide universal coverage?

I repeat what I said, this whole debate on reforming the U.S. health care system is no fun ... it stinks, even there in the air reeks of fascism

CONFLICT ARMY NORTH YEMEN

the middle of August, a sixth round of heavy fighting erupted in North Yemen between government forces and Shiite rebels

The conflict began in 2004 and the 5th round of fighting ended in mid-July 2008

And now, the Yemeni authorities have cut the access of humanitarian NGOs in conflict areas ... under security pretexts

With the consequence of cutting access to doctors, food and other humanitarian supplies and information on the impact of fighting on the civilian population

The most reliable reports indicate that more 100 000 civilians have been displaced by recent fighting

more ... So we do not know the extent of damage, deaths and injuries among civilians

Under international law, the laws of war demand that belligerents to distinguish combatants from civilians, and thus to direct attacks only against combatants and legitimate military targets

It goes without saying, therefore, that international law prohibits attacks against civilians, whether direct or indirect

Since July 2008, researchers were able to gather information about the 5th round fighting

We found evidence of aerial bombardment, direct attacks on villages by government forces and more serious violations of the law of war on both sides

including the use of child soldiers for combat

using landmines in civilian areas, and the taking of hostages

Yet Government of Yemen and Shiite leaders have repeatedly clams respected the laws of war ...

But here in the 6th round of fighting, no way to check ...

If they want to prove it, although they have only to facilitate access by humanitarian NGOs, journalists and agencies to monitor human rights in conflict zones

Kyrgyzstan

Come now in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asian countries in the middle of the decade seemed to move toward democracy

But watch out now, we see that the country is on a slippery slope toward authoritarianism

And activists from opposition to government and aid workers die hard right now

However, the head of state Bakiyev has already been hailed as a democrat, rising to the position of president of the republic during the Tulip Revolution in 2005
And
without natural resources in oil to corrupt power in this former Soviet satellite of the union,

The hope was to see that Kyrgyzstan could offer a progressive alternative to the dictatorships surrounding

But after fraudulent presidential elections of 23 July and a series of arbitrary arrests and draconian laws to control

It is obvious that Kyrgyzstan regresses

In fact, the country began to become authoritarian when Bakiyev has started to eliminate certain freedoms from 2006

He has since pushed back the democratic gains achieved over the past 15 years

At the point where some say Kyrgyzstan slid into despotism

Yet, as I said Kyrgyzstan has been an island of democracy ... This has served to greatly Bakiyev eyes of the international community

But Bakiyev also a way to curry favor with Russia and the U.S. through its military involvement to the two powers

I have often spoken here the republics of Central Asia represent the turning point of the great geopolitical game

The U.S. has a military base in Manas, from where they launch their planes to Afghanistan

Finally, since the election of July 23, activists and journalists were expelled from the country since the

Media Law of 2008, Bakiyev's son, Maxim has built a web of influence and control over the country's media

Over the past year there has been a dramatic increase in attacks on journalists

In September 2008 a law on demonstrations was passed, limiting freedom to assemble dangerously

Return Policy tribal clans is also another disturbing trend in Kyrgyzstan

The country's history during the last century saw power swing between the clans of the north and south

As seen in Afghanistan, there's nothing more dangerous than tribal politics

... and corruption, too ... since 2005, Bakiyev's family has an ownership of wealth

And during that time, Islamic organizations spread throughout the country

There have been arrests of Islamists radial, or even people who refuse to support the Taliban

So with the lack of democracy, it is feared the worst for Kyrgyzstan, we see a competition between secular modernity and Islam

While the government is acting against the legitimate secular opposition, it opens the way for a fundamentalist movement in Islam to take its place, which would be far more dangerous

HAITI HURRICANE

The hurricane season is back ... the time is right therefore to see how it comes out the poorest country in the hemisphere for a year when four hurricanes and tropical storms in Haiti dark

massive landslides and flooding are descended from the mountains no trees in the city of Gonaives

Tens of thousands of homes were destroyed

When the waters rculé, nearly two million cubic meters of mud remained

Water and food have been seriously remiss The malnurtition and disease hit the country

800 people have died, hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless

Overall damage was estimated at $ one billion

A year later, when I speak, there are only 30% of the mud covering the city of Gonaives has been removed

A year later, people still lack access to potable water for free, it must be bought from street vendors

A year later, people still hungry ...

The local economy is still too broken to allow people to work to meet their needs ... with less than $ 1 a day

The agency in charge of Haiti rebuild the city has done a pitiful job absolutely over the last 12 months

And the same can be said about foreign NGO working for years in Gonaives

Deforestation linked to extreme poverty has the same effect around the world, environmental degradation is accelerating, leaving poor communities average 40 times more sensitive to cope with natural disasters in rich countries

Haiti's inability to cope and recover from storms Tropical is directly linked to extreme poverty and environmental degradation, instability political and downright bad management state, also

Yet virtually every charitable work of the world working in Haiti

we see their new cars and trucks in every part of the country

Even if the intentions are good, these agencies accelerate the decay of public sector

they created their own kingdoms financial, offering money and jobs they want as well

we would not be surprised then to see the Haitian government weakened by the day

there's nothing new here in: foreign interference is taking place in Haiti for two hundred years date of birth of the republic

Everyone wants to help Haiti, however, the food, work, health, and education are still missing the call for the 9 million Haitians

So be good that future international assistance aimed at increasing the capacity of the Haitian government to fulfill its responsibilities, foremost

forget a little charity and contribute more to justice

Haitians have universal rights shared by the entire human family

The people therefore need solidarity, and organizations that will work for them not seeing them as objects of charity but as partners in solidarity with human rights
