Breeding females hibernate in the fall while the other group members die. In spring, the survivors found new colonies. To feed the larvae are carnivorous, adults captured large quantities of caterpillars and insects that destroy crops or attacking livestock, thereby eliminating many unwanted pests. At flowering, the wasp pollination is involved in collecting the nectar.

The species builds nests on the size of lemons, formed by 3 or 4 horizontal beams connected by a stalk. These are carefully protected by an envelope of paper mache, made from plant fibers bonded with saliva. The bottleneck station is located on the bottom.
